The world premiere begins performances in Chichester next month
Chichester Festival Theatre has announced complete casting for the upcoming world premiere production of John le Carré’s The Spy Who Came In from the Cold.
Adapted for the stage by David Eldridge and directed by Jeremy Herrin, the play follows disillusioned British spy Alec Leamas as he faces a final, risky operation against the East German Secret Service.
It is set to run at the Minerva Theatre from 23 August until 21 September, with a press night scheduled for 29 August.
Leading the cast as Leamas is Rory Keenan (Somewhere Boy) alongside Philip Arditti (Breathtaking) as Fiedler, Norma Atallah (In The Heights) as Miss Crail/President of the Tribunal, Mat Betteridge (Ulster American) as Riemeck/Kiever, Gunnar Cauthery (Dear England) as Mundt, Ian Drysdale (Firebrand) as Control, Tom Kanji (Richard My Richard) as Ashe, Agnes O’Casey (Lies We Tell) as Liz, John Ramm (Wolf Hall/Bring Up The Bodies) as Smiley and David Rubin (Grantchester) as Pitt/Ford. Casting is by Jessica Ronane.
The creative team also includes designer Max Jones, lighting designer Azusa Ono, composer Paul Englishby, sound designer Elizabeth Purnell, movement director Lucy Cullingford and fight director Bret Yount.
The Spy Who Came In from the Cold marks the first time a John le Carré novel has been adapted for the stage.
