Alex Winter is an actor, director, and writer who has worked across film, television, and theater.

Entering show business as a child actor, with co-starring roles on Broadway in The King and I with Yul Brynner and Peter Pan with Sandy Duncan, and the American premiere of Simon Gray’s Close of Play at Manhattan Theatre Club.

Winter came to prominence in movies such as Warner Bros’ hit The Lost Boys and the wildly popular Bill and Ted franchise.

As a filmmaker, Winter’s narrative features include the cult classic Freaked, for 20th Century Fox and Fever, for Lionsgate, an official selection in the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes. Winter’s award-winning documentaries include The YouTube Effect, Showbiz Kids, The Panama Papers, Deep Web and Zappa. A Critics Pick in the New York Times, Zappa was nominated for Best Music Documentary by the Critics Choice Awards.

The highly anticipated third installment in the Bill and Ted franchise, Bill and Ted Face The Music, opened in August 2020, as the number one film in the U.S. and abroad. Now in release are Winter’s latest acting projects, including the gonzo horrorcomedy, Destroy All Neighbors, which premiered on Shudder and in theaters in January 2024, as well as the upcoming Absolute Dominion from director Lexi Alexander, and Adulthood, the feature Winter directed and acted in, starring Josh Gad and Kaya Scodelario, due for release in 2025.
