Samuel Alexander Joseph West, born on June 19, 1966, is an accomplished English actor, theatre director, and narrator.

His career includes directing for theatre and radio, alongside acting in theatre, film, television, and radio productions. Notably, he garnered a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Leonard Bast in the Merchant Ivory adaptation of E. M. Forster’s novel Howards End (1992). He also received acclaim with a Genie Award nomination for Best Actor for his role in Rupert’s Land (1998).

In 2010, West was recognized with a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance as Jeffrey Skilling in Lucy Prebble’s Enron. In addition to his acting achievements, he has showcased his talent as a reciter alongside orchestras and participated in the prestigious Last Night of the Proms in 2002. West has provided narration in numerous BBC documentary series, particularly those exploring the Second World War. Currently, he portrays Siegfried Farnon in the Channel 5 adaptation of the beloved veterinary drama All Creatures Great and Small.
